FOCO: Family Budget

FOCO: Family Budget — Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 20, 2026

VLR Software LLC ("VLR Software," "we," "us," or "our") provides FOCO: Family Budget ("FOCO" or the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use FOCO.

The short version

FOCO is designed to keep your financial records under your control. We do not operate an account system or a server that receives your budgets, transactions, receipts, questions, or bank balance. The App contains no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs.

Your records are stored on your device and, when iCloud is available, in your own Apple iCloud account using CloudKit. On-device Apple Intelligence features are optional. FOCO does not connect to your bank and never asks for bank credentials.

1. Information FOCO processes

Depending on the features you use, FOCO may process:

  • budget names, categories, limits, goals, notes, and currency settings;
  • transactions, merchants or payees, dates, amounts, recurring-payment rules, and activity history;
  • the name or profile label you choose for a shared budget;
  • receipt images you capture or select, and text recognized from those images;
  • questions you ask FOCO about your recorded financial information;
  • a bank balance you manually enter during reconciliation and the resulting difference from FOCO's expected balance;
  • merchant aliases and other preferences that help FOCO make local suggestions; and
  • app settings, such as language, notification preferences, and app-lock preferences.

This information is used only to provide the features you request. VLR Software does not receive this information from the App.

2. Local storage and iCloud

FOCO saves app data on your device. When iCloud is available for FOCO, Apple CloudKit may synchronize eligible budget data among your devices through your Apple Account.

VLR Software does not operate the CloudKit service, does not receive your iCloud credentials, and does not have a developer dashboard that can view or retrieve your private FOCO records. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and applicable Apple service terms.

Some device-specific information, including the latest reconciliation snapshot and learned merchant aliases, may remain only on that device and may not synchronize through iCloud.

3. Shared budgets

If a budget owner chooses to share a budget, FOCO uses Apple's CloudKit sharing system. Apple processes the invitation and sharing relationship. People invited to the budget may be able to see or edit the shared budget's information according to the access selected by the owner and enforced by Apple's sharing controls.

Do not place information in a shared budget that you do not want the invited participants to see. Budget owners are responsible for choosing participants and access levels. A participant can stop using a shared budget through the available Apple sharing controls.

4. Receipts, camera, and photo library

FOCO accesses the camera only when you choose to take a receipt photo. It accesses only the photos you select through Apple's photo picker. Receipt recognition uses Apple Vision and, when available and requested, on-device Apple Intelligence. Receipt images and recognized text are processed on the device to prepare a draft for your review.

FOCO does not upload receipt images to VLR Software. Nothing recognized from a receipt becomes a financial record until you review and save it.

You can manage camera and photo access in iOS Settings.

5. Apple Intelligence, Siri, and automation

On supported devices, FOCO may use Apple's on-device Foundation Models to interpret natural-language transaction drafts, understand receipt text, explain verified budget results, or rank possible reconciliation explanations. These features are optional and subject to Apple Intelligence availability on your device.

FOCO performs financial calculations with deterministic app logic. Apple Intelligence does not invent balances, does not independently alter your ledger, and does not save a transaction without a confirmation step.

If you use Siri, Shortcuts, widgets, or App Intents, Apple may process the request under Apple's privacy terms. FOCO receives only the information needed to perform the action you requested and applies its normal confirmation rules.

6. Reconciliation and bank information

FOCO does not connect to financial institutions, use open-banking services, or request account numbers, passwords, or other bank credentials. During reconciliation, you manually enter a current bank balance. FOCO compares it with the balance implied by the transactions you recorded.

The most recent comparison is stored locally on your device. Any correction you choose to save becomes an ordinary FOCO transaction and may synchronize or be shared like other budget data. Suggested explanations are based on records already in FOCO; they are not bank data and are never saved automatically.

7. Purchases

Premium purchases and subscriptions are offered through Apple's StoreKit and are processed by Apple. VLR Software does not receive your full payment-card or Apple Account credentials. FOCO receives purchase and entitlement status from Apple so it can unlock the features you purchased. Apple's handling of purchase information is governed by Apple's policies.

8. App lock and biometrics

If you enable App Lock, authentication is performed by iOS using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. FOCO receives only the success or failure of the authentication request. VLR Software does not receive or store biometric data.

9. Notifications

If you allow notifications, FOCO may schedule reminders or present sharing-related updates. You can change notification permission in iOS Settings and adjust supported notification preferences in FOCO. VLR Software does not use notifications for advertising or behavioral tracking.

10. Exports and external destinations

When you export a budget, FOCO creates the file on your device and lets you choose where to save or share it. Once you send data to Files, Mail, Messages, another app, or another person, that destination's privacy practices apply. You are responsible for protecting exported files.

11. Support communications

FOCO opens your mail app when you choose Send Feedback or Contact Support. If you email us, we receive the email address, message, and attachments you voluntarily provide. We use that information to respond, troubleshoot, prevent abuse, and maintain reasonable business records. Do not include bank credentials or information you do not want to send to VLR Software.

You may ask us to delete support correspondence that identifies you by emailing support@vlrsoftware.com, subject to information we must retain for legal, security, or recordkeeping purposes.

12. Data retention, deletion, and your choices

Because VLR Software does not receive your FOCO ledger, we cannot access, correct, or delete it for you. You control it through FOCO, your device, your Apple Account, and Apple's iCloud controls.

  • You can edit or delete budgets, categories, transactions, recurring rules, and other records using the App's controls.
  • Deleted budgets, categories, and transactions may remain recoverable in Recently Deleted for up to 30 days unless permanently deleted sooner where that option is available.
  • Deletions to synchronized or shared data may propagate through iCloud and to participating devices.
  • You can stop sharing or leave a shared budget using the available Apple sharing controls.
  • You can remove FOCO and its local data from your device by deleting the App. You can manage iCloud data through Apple's device and account settings.
  • You can revoke camera, photo, notification, Siri, and other system permissions in iOS Settings.

Exports and copies previously shared with other people or services must be deleted from those destinations separately.

13. Data we do not collect from the App

VLR Software does not use FOCO to collect advertising identifiers, precise or coarse location, contacts, browsing history, search history, device fingerprints, or behavioral analytics. We do not sell personal information and do not use FOCO data for cross-app tracking or targeted advertising.

Apple may independently process limited technical, diagnostic, iCloud, purchase, Siri, or App Store information according to your device settings and Apple's policies. Those Apple services are not operated by VLR Software.

14. Security

FOCO relies on iOS app isolation, system authentication when enabled, and Apple's security for iCloud and StoreKit. You are responsible for protecting your device, Apple Account, shared-budget invitations, and exported files. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

15. Children

FOCO is a general financial organization tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the App. A minor should use FOCO only with permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian where required by law.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as FOCO changes or legal requirements evolve. We will post the revised policy at this URL and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how the App handles information, we will provide additional notice when reasonably appropriate.
